Long story short, I ran into a curb this morning and fucked up my front passenger tire. I've got the spare on right now, but need to get a new tire ASAP. Anyone know of a good place in Rolla? Besides Wal-Mart. I don't trust them to fill my gas tank. Thanks
Stay away from Plaza Tire and Johns Firestone place.
I have been F'ed by both...
Though I have not gone myself, others in my office (Psychology) seem to like Sams Tire... Hope this helps...

Tunes Garage does tires, but they may make you apprehensive, they are in kind of an old run down looking building out by DaVincis. I haven't bought tires from them, but I had them do some front end work, and that is where I will be headed if I need any other work done. Nice guys and they seem to be fairly reasonable....

I honestly dont know why you dont go to Walmart. Its pretty good just for tire replacement. It's not like they're doin anything difficult. And they're pretty cheap too.

I have higher standards for auto work. A new tire, tire rotation, or oil change are about the only things I'll let someone besides the dealer do. And if the nearest dealer for my car wasn't in Jeff City, they'd probably be doing the new tire too. But since I don't have a choice, then it's gotta be some place down here, and it definitely won't be Wal-Mart.

What on earth do you drive? Going to a dealer to get anything done is outrageous (atleast in my experience) and they aren't any better (most of the time) than anyone else....

I drive a 2 year old car, so repairs are under warranty, and the dealer I go to isn't any more than an independent mechanic for maintenance.

Well i drive a BMW 318i, and yes, I have to go to Stlous to get anything fixed, but replacing a tire can be done by a retard, so Walmart is a practical place to get it done.

If the tire and the rim are together then yes it is quite simple and he would have done it himself, but putting a new tire on a rim is not that easy. Although I personally think walmart has competent enough workers to do it right.

While I'd never let Wal-Mart do any mechanical work or fluid changes, I'd let them change my tires. I mean, you can inspect them and find out pretty quick if they did a half-assed decent job.
But, if you really want to go to a shop, I've liked Zane's Garage. All-American Auto and Firestone both suck. I've had to go to both of them for repairs (one to fix the other's mistake) and they both sucked.

What did you have "fixed" at Firestone if I might ask? I had them do my breaks and they used the wrong depth when turning my rotors thus I have to get it all fixed again...

Well, I originally needed my radiator replaced and took it to All-American Auto on 18th. They did fine replacing it, and also put on tranny cooler (I don't know why, they didn't charge me for it, though). But, they left all the lines loose so it was pouring fluid.
At the time, I didn't know they put it on there, so I thought I had a tranny leak and took it to Firestone to fix. They told me that the lines were loose and snugged them up, and topped off my fluid.
But, more than top it off, they overfilled it by at least 2 quarts. The next time it got up to temperature, my overflow valve started puking out fluid, which, in turn, dripped onto my muffler, which in turned caused me to be a huge ball of thick smoke driving down I-44.
This is why I try to do everything I can on my car myself.
