This might be different for non-humanities majors, but I've noticed that getting cheaper textbooks on eBay is not as easy as it sounds. For one thing, there are too many editions, and for another, I can't seem to seach by ISBN; you have to read the auction to find that out. Then, when I do find the right book, it's cheaper to just buy it used from the bookstore and then sell it back in December. Anyone having any luck outside of eBay?

I found about half of my books off of amazon.com, once you find the reference number off the umr book store site its preety easy to find the editions you need.
Try http://www.fetchbook.info/, http://www.bestbookdeal.com/, or addall.com. Or any other price comparison site. Using amazon/umr bookstore you can get the isbn and search with it. They also take shipping/tax into account. Ebay isn't so useful for getting textbooks.

For a few of mine, eBay was the cheapest. I guess it all depends on what deals you find

Ebay's book site is Half.com. This organizes editions and what not, I find it easiest to search for ISBN. It's also alot better than ebay's main site. The buyer inputs their credit card number and they actually pay ebay not the buyer. Then ebay deposits the money into the seller's bank account twice a month by direct deposit. I've bought and sold a few books. It usually has some good deals.

i used mostly amazon and half, bought all my books new, and saved about a hundred dollars compared to buying used from the bookstore. i also got a free complete solutions manual with my calc book - something that would've been an additional 40 bucks at the bookstore. the only thing i had to buy from umr was the Macro economics book.
just read each description carefully - sometimes if you don't you can end up with an international or older edition. (but for physics international is good because it doesn't censor stuff on nuclear / bomb physics - we had one in my AP advanced physics class in highschool)

I used Ebay, half.com, and Amazon this semester and had really good luck with all of them. It just depends on where the better deal is at as far as I'm concerned.
