Impressive, but I'm still one to say if you want to go that fast, just buy a Corvette.

A ZO6 is designed to run that fast, stop from that fast, and handle when it's going that fast. Add to that that you get the support of a factory warranty and it just doesn't make sense to go much of any other way, especially with a price tag of "only" $65,000.

Start with your brand new STI (35,000) and start bolting on the pieces needed to make that car stable at 207mph, then build the motor needed to push that car to 207mph, add bigger brakes, probably a regear at the axles, then everything else i'm probably not thinking of and I can see this easily running damn near the $65,000 price tag of the ZO6.

I know, with the Corvette you don't get the "I built it" bragging rights, but you get a product designed to put up with the rigors of 200+mph supported by the full efforts of corporate.

It just makes more sense. (But like I'm one to talk, I'm getting ready to push a 5,000lb car into the 12's)

With the STI, you get not only the bragging rights, but you get the fun of doing so. To lots of people, building a car like that is a hobby.

Plus. as far as safety goes....200 MPH isn't safe in any car. Sure, the Z06 was built for it, but it still isn't safe.

Actually, I'm not digging on the hobby tuners, it seems like a lot of fun and I'd like to know more than I do about cars, I just love Corvettes. :D

The new 2006 Z06 stock pretty much owns all, but the older ones are no faster than I am, I've raced plenty on the highway and we where even all they way up to 140. I find that very sad for chevy.

I know, that's why i left in the bit about me trying to get a full body/full interior 5,000lb car into the mid-12's. Not really practical and no good for anything besides saying I have a 2 1/2 ton car that will leave a cobra behind in the quarter, run neck and neck with a Vette and viper.

You also have to take into account that the Vette is still running pushrods, has 2 valves per cylinder, and no forced induction. That is what is really amazing about it. The older ones (mid 70's through early 90's) are definitely slow compared to modern cars, but take into account that they were the fastest thing out produced in America during those years (depressing, i know). Hell, the last 454 Vette only had 150hp.

Like i said, i'm DEFINITELY impressed with what that guy did, just not really what makes sense to me

Maybe it's because I'm from St. Louis where Corvettes are as common as Civics, but I just don't see what's so special about having one. And every time I do see one, it's driven by some old fart going 10 under the speed limit. I'd rather not own the official mid-life crisis car.

Childhood love. It was my car growing up. If you loved something and promised yourself since you were 5 that you were to get that something, just because a few other people had it would you change your mind? Naw. I'm not digging on you, and I agree it's a little dissapointing to see so many Corvettes (but better your favorite car succeed then fail, right?), but I still love them all the same.
