Try the CS CLCs. The machines in EE aren't as new.

Last I knew
The EE clcs were P4 2.4's on intel 845 chipsets...you bet your ass they are usb 2.0s. I put them in those clcs. Go down to G6 to see what's going wrong.

I'll check that out, they are currently moving way way under 1Mbps
I'm just copying a distro from the c: to an ext. hdd, it took 16 min for a 700Mb file, so 700(Mb)/960(s) =.72Mb/s, ok not way way under but slow enough

Are you using the ports in the back by the keyboard/mouse connectors, or the ports on the front?

700 megabits? what site / distro measures their releases in bits?
USB 1.1 has a theoretical throughput of 12 Mb/s. Your transfer, would then come in at .72MB/s * 8 = 5.76 Mbps...still half what it should have been.
when you plugged it in, was there a little popup saying, "Your device can go faster. Click here!" In any case, head downstairs to G6, they are a good bunch that should help you out.
Remember, campus does not support the hardware in those labs...EE does. They don't know about problems until someone lets them know...let them know.

The case may not have USB2.0 ports in the front.
