I am looking to buy a broken iPod, especially if the hard drive is dead. I am looking at taking this apart to try out some interesting hard drive upgrades I have read about. These sound risky so I don't want to possibly destroy my own perfectly good iPod.

I prefer a 4th Gen (4g) iPod if possible but send me any information on iPods you may have. I am looking at full-sized iPods only, not the mini or nano versions. iPods with dead hard drives often make odd clicking, grinding, whirring, or other mechanical noises and won't boot up.

Thank you,

1. take your own perfectly good ipod.
2. drop it.
3. proceed with your experiment.

Yeah, I have decided to do this to my own perfectly good iPod if the HDD ever dies in it. 20 GB is about full and I have a lot more music coming my way.

Watch out as Apple doesn't use standard 1.8" HDDs, they hack those up quite nicely for better battery life.
