Is your provider Verizon Wireless? If so, I can explain the more complicated process. But basically, you set up a connection (dial-up style) to Verizon, connect your phone via a data cable (~$5 on eBay), and off you go. It always says "Connected at 230 kbps," but the actual speed depends on how many bars of service your phone gets. Luckily, I have full coverage at my house, so the actual speed is somewhere in between dial-up and broadband. Best of all, it uses only minutes, making it free on nights and weekends.

Cool, huh?

230 kbps isn't quite 'broadband' speed, but I will admit it isn't that bad. It's still way better than dial-up...

Anyone else having problems with DNS lookups taking forever?

Sometimes, Firefox will spend 10 seconds showing "Looking up google.com" or something like that in the status bar, and once it finally resolves the domain name, it's fine. But it's the initial lookup that's been taking its time lately.

are you using fidelity's actual nameservers? or are you using your router's? some routers prefer to act as a "dns proxie" but I think it's a total load of bullshit, they're not dependable.

Heh. We called them yesterday because our "5 mbit" connection was running at about 2 mbit, according to every speed test we did. While we were talking to the people on the phone, who "didn't change anything", the speed went up to 5 mbit. Good game, Fidelity.

I'm using a router, and in Mac OSX's network configuration, I haven't set any custom DNS servers, so yeah, I guess I'm using my routers servers. What addresses could I use for the Fidelity nameservers?
