The guy did say there would be 'serious consequences' if the couple wasn't left alone. I don't think that merits charging the couple with terrorism, but there is at least some reason behind the arrest.

I pretty much agree with this. Regardless of one's feelings towards the Patriot Act, it's simply not appropriate to threaten anyone with "serious consequences" on an airplane anymore.
For the record, I don't agree with the Patriot Act.

I agree they should be charged with something but they are obviously not terrorists. Using the PA this way is an obvious abuse, and was not completely unforseen. This is evidence of why we shouldn't have any more new laws, and need to go back and repeal many of the ones we do have.

Odd. Not that I agree with the Patriot Act completely, but I thought that it was law that passengers must comply with flight attendant instructions. I don't think that this is too terrible a law (except for extreme cases of course).
If so, these people were breaking the law. The article says that they were charged with "obstructing a flight attendant and with criminal association." I don't find that to be completely unreasonable. "Criminal Association" might be a little extreme, but I'm not exactly sure what kind of penalty it carries.

obviously if these charges fly, no pun intended (well, initally no pun intended), then it will be an abuse of the patriot act. honestly this is stupid. its a case of criminal "frivolous lawsuit" charges

They're looking at 20 years in prison, each.

That's probably the maximum penalty. I was more curious what they'd actually be facing.
Not curious enough to look it up, though....
