I'm not saying that drivers should have right of way over pedestrians.
I'm not saying that I think drivers should drive like idiots on campus at any time they feel like it... quite the contrary.
And, I'm not saying that having only 5 minutes until class and no parking places to be seen is license to try to speed your way between pedestrians ON A CROSSWALK (actually saw a kid almost get mauled this morning on that EE crosswalk and was disgusted).
All I want to say is that pedestrians, especially those on campus, need to be more courteous and even more careful. Please look around before stepping into the road - drivers will assume you're not stupid enough to do that and will go on their merry way before expecting someone to step blindly into their path. When you're walking to class along a road, for example, the circle drive between Physics and Civil that runs behind Parker and Norwood, please walk next to the parked cars on either side - it can worry the hell out of drivers going down that road when Calculus lets out and everyone's all over the road - you can't look at everyone at once. And this one goes to both drivers and pedestrians: When you're sitting at a stop sign/corner and there are people waiting to cross, don't just stare at each other. Driver, please give some sort of signal for the person to go or roll forward a little to let them know you will be going so you don't both go at once (By the way, if the walker goes before you do, you're legally required to yield - and by the way to walkers, that's not cool unless you have made eye contact or something with the driver so that they know you know the car is there.
In short, I know we all need to be getting to class, but that doesn't mean pedestrians need to make it more difficult for the drivers to find that already elusive parking spot. You shouldn't have to leave from behind Frat Row, driving, at 8:30 to get to class on time.

So, did you hammer someone this morning?
See, you must be one of those damn optimists. Pessimists, like me, are always expecting people to be absolute bumbling morons until they give a good reason to believe otherwise. The other day when it was icy, there were idiots just walking right out into the road in front of me... not too smart.

i think it's funny when people just walk out in the road looking at their feet, assuming that cars are going to stop because "pedestrians have the right of way". i know it's the umr social skills at work to not look up, but damn, get some common sense.
it may be a written law that pedestrians have the right of way, but a law of physics states that in a disagreement between a human and a 2000lb car, the law of physics will always beat the written law.
and... in a related topic...
LEARN TO FUCKING PARK! there are limited spaces available on the street. don't take up 1.5 spaces & screw everybody else. leaving a 6 foot space between vehicles is ridiculous. if you need more than 2 feet of space to get your car out, you probably shouldn't be driving anyway.

I come from Tampa, grew up in Miami, and am pretty used to walking in city traffic. Which, consequently, made me develop the habit of actually waiting for the walk signal at the cross walk. I am usually the only person who actually waits for it, and it makes me feel like a total douche when I'm standing there waiting and other people just walk up and cross.
No matter how much I tell myself that the traffic isn't what I'm used to, I just can't shake it.
Of course, I've also noticed that people don't follow the turning signal for when the walk signal is lit. I don't know the state law here, but in Fl when the walk signal is lit, drivers aren't supposed to turn right. Then theres the cross walk between the H parking lot and the RC. If there was ever a place that needed a walk signal, its there.
And not to threadjack, but what the hell is up with Missouri and Illinois drivers and cruising in the pass lane on interstate?
To all you fuckers that steal my parking space infront of my house.. KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF. I can't even begin to count how many times i've had to leave for a 5 minute errand, only to come back and find some dormie fucker has taken my parking spot and won't touch their car for 2 weeks. That means that for 2 weeks I have to park DOWN THE ROAD from my own GODDAMN HOUSE. So now instead of the 4-5 people who live at the house that park there.. only 3 of them can park their cars. If you want to take my parking spot at my HOUSE then you better pay some goddamn rent!

Amen to that... I live right by the RC, so I rarely have parking available on the street. I believe there's actually an ordiance that prohibits a vehicle from being parked in front of residence of which they do not reside for more than 72 hours. Just FYI.
And while I agree with most of what you said LuvMyTreefrogs, I think drivers also need to show a bit of courtesy to pedestrians when the weather isn't so nice. For example, I'll stop for pedestrians looking to cross the road in the rain, even if they're not at a crosswalk.

Maybe if cars weren't speeding and especially cars that pass through there daily should _follow_ the law and the law of physics wouldn't need to be applied.
I learned from high school cross-country that you need to pay attention to cars way before you get to the crosswalk. I also found out that not all cars stop at stop signs.

Tell fucking UMR PD to give me a goddamn parking pass. I've been waiting 1.5 years for one.

Not my problem. I did my time in the dorms and got out. I never did anything dickish like park infront of a residency I didn't know and neither should you guys.

How does it take you 1.5 years to get a parking ticket? I just transferred here and got one in like a month. Is the lot you want to park in consistently full or something?

:P So besides EE (which is where I park), where exactly do I put my car that isn't 1000 miles out of my way?

I have no idea where you live. I really don't care. However, I hate to break it to ya bub, but you do not pay for a parking spot. A plot of public road that happens to be conveniently located in close proximatey to the building you reside in is not covered in your rent bill.
I realize that it is inconvenient. Would I be annoyed if it happened to me. Fucking right. It happens all the time. "Some independent fucker" parks at the quad to go to leach theatre or the bsu or visit a friend. If it is that crucial to you get a house with as many spots in a private lot or garage as you have renters.

TJ parking pass, not just on-campus.
I got my previous TJ parking pass in one month.
