Not too familiar with the choices here in Rolla, and I want to be nice and pretty for my wedding in May , so does anyone reccommend any hair, nail, waxing, skin care salons in town? For those boys out there with girlfriends/fiancees/wives somewhere in close proximity, I would much appreciate it if you could divulge their favorite beauty places, too.

Also, I'm a "mousy blonde" and hate the color and am relatively pale, so should I go to a darker brunette or try lightening to a golden blonde?

You should be yourself, in my opinion, and not worry about changing your natural hair color for what is probably going to be one of the most important days of your life, especially when he undoubtedly loves you for who you are.

Well, I appreciate the serious reply (something I wasn't really expecting from some of you boys ), and now I'm really reconsidering changing my hair color, but if anyone's hair can be indecisive, mine is. Brown/grayish tan/dull gold/splotches of red left over from impulsive semi-permanent change doesn't seem to be working well and looks kind of trashy. Mostly I want a more uniform color, and they don't sell a treatment to enhance "mousy blonde".

EDIT: Didn't want to double post, so here goes - do those little getups at the department store cosmetic counters cost anything? The only makeup I ever wear is foundation, and even that's rare, and I need to learn sometime what looks best for me.

Find an Avon rep and talk to them about the makeup. They generally give out free samples and can even give you lessons on how to apply properly. I don't wear makeup, but on the rare occasion when I do, it usually comes from their freebies. As for the hair color, find something as close to your natural color as possible and stick with that. You're not going to want to look back at the pictures 20 years later and think "omg, why did I do that?"

My natural is closer to brunette, but I was wondering if I could lighten my brows to match? I don't want to dye it too much in testing (= death of hair), so I might take your advice.

Good idea on the Avon, too... is it any better than Mary Kay? An old choir teacher of mine was one of their representatives and I wonder if I could sucker a session out of her (except she'll freak on me if she finds out I quit singing...)

If you want to change your hair, try it now so you know whether you like it or not. You don't want to get too close to the wedding then start trying new things, you may hate it and not have much time to fix your hair.

That's why I'm asking now... know of any good places I could try, or do you think it really matters at this point - aka save some money getting it colored at Great Clips and then invest in a much better quality one closer to the wedding?

Same thinking with the other things - I need to test them now so I don't have a sudden icky reaction the day before the ceremony. Any reliable salons in town?

I would go to Daniel Paul, he's on Rolla Street. He's great, and he can give you advice on what would look best, as far as your hair goes. He will probably do a "test" dye to make sure it turns out how you want it to, then about 1-2 weeks before the wedding he'll do it again so that it hasn't faded by your wedding.

Also, yes, if you go to a dept. store and go to the little make up counters, all you have to do is say you're looking for "insert qualifications here" and they can help you out. So, if you want to go with a more natural look, they can find some neutral tones to complement your skin, eyes and hair, and see how they look on you. They'll probably even show you how to put it on. Their products tend to run a little more expensive though, as they have higher quality products than an Avon or Mary Kay would have. Just having the lady help you doesn't cost anything though. It's a marketing technique to get you to buy what they put on.

If you're just looking for something for one day, I'd get it done at a salon. You can do a test run there too, they can fix your make up for you, after you tell them how you want to look, then they'll do it the same way on your wedding day.

I'll probably have to go back to St. Louis to find a department store with a cosmetics section... do that first to get an idea of what I like and don't like and then be a little more specific to the guy I'm paying. Never knew if it cost, so now I'm a little more inclined to try it. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm of the opinion she should do what makes her happy. It doesn't bother me.

Don't go to Great Clips. My lady got her hair done there once, and hated it.

I've heard that the Day Spa on Forum (the one that advertises on TV) is relatively decent. I think you can schedule just a hair appointment with them, so you don't have to do the whole spa treatment thing.

I've always gone to tangles to get my hair cut, they are inexpensive and do a good job. They're located off of Forum on the side opposite of Country Mart/El Maguey. As far as the hair color, I'd go with a golden blonde if you have fair skin, a light brunette if your skin is more olive or darker.

Are you talking about Il Bacio? That's on Pine, so maybe not... anyway, while we're on that place, has anyone actually been there for massages or the like? Prices seem all right, but do they do a good job?

BTW, not a fan of Great Clips, they're kind of a last-ditch-OMG-I'm-poorer-than-I-thought-I-was option. Which is why I was looking for a privately owned place around here usually = better quality for the price.
