I mean seriously, you can't get any work done on those machines..

All the computers are dying or about dead. They are slow, and prone to lock ups, the harddrives are also whining and knocking. Also accessing any remote files leads to a 10 minute wait, while the computer grinds to a halt and the Task Manager CPU Meter hits 100%..

Everytime i open a Word document in EE or in Matlab im afraid the computer is going to crash on me or grind to a halt, or all of a sudden the S:\ drive is going to dissapear.

is EE IT going to do anything about it? Comp Sci has some nice new computers this semester, why does EE have to keep the trash around? What are we paying for?

What good does it do to post that rant here? You're complaining to the wrong crowd. If you have a problem with the computers then talk to UMR IT.

I don't know where you go computing in the 2 windows labs and 1 unix lab, but I've never really had too many problems in the past 5 years. Sure they might not be the fastest comparded to those black dells popping up around campus, but I've used a lot of number crunching apps there and haven't had more then a handfull of crashes (which I think isn't too bad) Just my opinion though

More like the monitoring software they've got to spy on you in in the EE CLCs are slowing things down.

the only complaint I have is the sticky keyboards. I just LOVE it when shift acts like caps lock and the space bar acts like tab.

Well the new black keyboards fixed the sticky keys. Plus they aren't that retarded with key layout like some of the Dell keyboards that seem to have a crazy desire to place the insert/delete/home/end/PgUp/PgDn key set in a wierd orientation or position.

Anyone know what the deal is with some of the sun workstations. Every week one of them freezes after I enter my username and password. Its pretty annoying.

Never had an issue. I think we looked up the cost of those computers when I was in 112. I think they were rather expensive (few thousand a piece). Of course I could be remembering something totally different.

The Sun Workstations have gone a little crazy lately. Fortunately they'll be replacing them all of their software with linux, thus making them a helluvalot more stable.

Is there a way to print to the 106 printers from 105/107? It would speed things up some days when the labs are filled and everyone is printing.
