Dear Loyal Readers,

It is with great regret that we must announce the end of the Mineshaft.

The Mineshaft was founded to give the UMR campus an alternative news source, preferably one that held itself to a high standard of journalistic integrity. However, dissension among the staff about the direction and purpose of the paper along with attempts to discredit the newspaper have made it impossible for us to meet the goals that we set for ourselves. We have decided that we would rather produce no paper, than produce a paper that was of no higher quality than the existing options.

The Mineshaft is shutting off the printing presses forever. We thank you for your support, and ask that the name "Mineshaft", as well as the pseudonyms of the staff members not be used. We hope that you would remember the Mineshaft as the product of a small group of students who earnestly desired to serve the UMR community, and allow the names and the students behind those names to do the same.

Allow me first to apologize for the sad usage of your names without them being used in a BCC function as we at The Mineshaft had been attempting to do (I do acknowledge at least one error in that respect).

With that being said allow me to say that the email you received is not at all factual. Please disregard any future emails from thenewmineshaft@gmail.com until we are able to address issues regarding our password being compromised.

It appears this is as good a time as any to state that our account was “hi-jacked” this summer. We are currently in the process of working with Gmail.com to rectify this situation or at least shut down the current account so emails like the one below can not be sent.

The validity of this email cannot be called into question since, as you all should remember, I was announced as Nathaniel d’Artagnan and this is my official UMR address. I greatly apologize for this inconvenience. The Mineshaft does still exist and an announcement from the staff will be made later this week with respect to its future on this great campus.

BTW, thank you to whomever did steal the email account. Until you sent that email out we had effectively lost our subscriber list. That is obviously no longer an issue.

It went out 8 minutes later because that is the time it took me to look up from my homework and compose the email. The Mineshaft was indeed "hacked" over the summer and all emails from their should be disregarded. As I mentioned in the other post, I am Alex Dempsey and I did send out the email from my UMR account as soon as physically possible from the hacker sending out their email.
