Anyone know what's up with ResNet internets? It's slower than it was last year. I have some idea, but I'd like to hear it from someone that knows what's going on with it. Thought it was upgraded?

Speakeasy test in TJ North:

Wired connection, Friday 3:23pm
Download Speed: 979 kbps (122.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 581 kbps (72.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
(faster than usual actually)

Wireless (MST-PSK) same place:

Download Speed: 10,982 kbps (1372 KB/sec)
Upload Speed: 2,782 kbps (347.8 KB/sec)

While downloading the Crysis demo this afternoon on my laptop and desktop, I had the wireless jump between 500-900KB/sec and wired a steady 100KB/sec ish.

?

ResNet only has a 45mbps connection to the interwebs, and once you split that up among everybody, there's not much left.

AFAIK, the wireless networks go out a different (faster) connection to the tubes, thus, the possibility of better speeds (but on wireless, you're still going to have traffic shaping and the million things that can screw with a wireless signal affecting your speeds)

The switches were upgraded giving you 100mbit instead of 10mbit
