It seems there has been a lot of mod activity since the forum came back up. I don't ever remember having this many posts locked for 'beating a dead horse'. I completely understand threads getting locked for stupid shit like quote pyramids. Not that it's a huge deal, just making an observation.

I've noticed this myself, but I was unsure how to bring up the subject without starting shit. I don't think it's a terrible thing, but I've always thought that mods should take hands-off approach to most things not blatently flaming.
Berto has a god complex and feels like he has to constantly be doing something on the site or it will all go to hell. Don't know why anyone chose him to be a mod.

It's a way to keep fresh material coming, new conversations, etc. Think about the posts we locked. How many repeating statements were there?
We can stop being so "lock-happy" if you guys want. We just wanted to bring in more conversation than:
Person1: zomg guys with guns are dangerous Person2: i totally agree but dude, guys with guns can shoot through windows Person3: yeah guys with guns are dangerous lolz

I personally think you guys could take it down a notch. I understand where you're coming from about trying to keep things fresh and interesting, but at some point you just have to trust in your users to say what they're going to say.

I don't think I've closed any. I go by the theory of unless its hurting anyone its fine.
That coupled with sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me should result in ~0 thread lockings.
I know there are times when locking is necessary just to avoid douchebaggery, but locking dead/repetitive threads will not cause people to come up with new posts.

Locking a million year old thread that has no relevance today and was not brought back for nostalgia - fine.
Locking active discussion topics because people are agreeing - doesn't make much sense to me.
You want to stimulate conversation, so you lock the threads that are actually getting discussion? It may be a circle-jerk of agreement, but apparently people like that once in a while. I hadn't posted in the guy-in-the-car-with-a-gun thread, but I was curious to see where it went. I was also curious to see what the real story was, when it eventually came out. I agree that it may have been repetitive, but I am a big boy, and I am capable of scrolling down and not reading the posts that I find annoying.

Please read what I said carefully next time. We want to stimulate _new_ conversation, not the same stuff that has been beaten to death. We've already said we'll cut back on it. And I don't know if the 'big boy' comment is an insult or just stating that you can take care of yourself, but if it was an insult, please refrain from being lame.

I did not mean to be insulting, only that I can decide for myself whether I want to read about beating a dead horse. I apologize if I came off as insulting.
