Well, I thought it would be interesting to make a collection of the various named houses throughout Rolla. Here's the deal - if you know of a house, make a post about it and include any background info on why it's named what it is. I'll start off with a list of the ones I know of, but to be honest I don't know why most are named the way they are. I don't know if posting the location is a great idea, I guess if you live in one of these houses and are comfortable with it then by all means, go for it.

1. The Barn (formerly the Buffalo Barn)
2. Swimmer House
3. Rock House
4. The Swamp
5. Miner House

I know there are more, so post 'em up, and anything you know about them!

newb, rock house is no more, they were bribed to make way for a starbuck/quiznos before quiznos backed out. And the barn is done for parties this spring. Dont know about next year, I wont be involved with it. I'll add the lodge and GBH. Dont know about goat house. used to be old RAs.

Runner's House

Pretty obvious, distance runners live there, have for many years. I'm moving into it next year. I know swimmers house has the same tradition (obviously guys on the swim team live there). Although, I believe their tradition is falling through somewhat, hardly any swimmers live there anymore.

yeah the barn is just about dead, but there are some guys from delta sig moving in next year, so i'm sure that is something to look forward to

Rock house is named that because the front is all rocks. Oh, and people are living in rock house next year on a month to month lease, so there may still be parties there.

Also, no swimmers currently live in swimmer house.

I believe there is also a Lacrose house.

C'mon people... post what you know about these places too... I'm sure there's good stories behind the naming.

It's like naming off Pearl Harbor - it's just not the same if you don't know the story behind it.

Buffalo Barn came from our friend frank saying it. Named after buffalo who lived there. When Buffalo moved out we called it The Barn, which most people called it anyways.

Lunchbox, you still naming your house next year? I think Tex still wants our house to be monocle house since its the sort of expensive fancy house...

Yea, I'll be moving in with 3 other delta sig guys. We will definitely start up monthly crunkfest-equivalent parties and prolly continue to sell cups there. We were toying with the idea of renaming the house to something more meaningful to us, but who knows. Check facebook or somethin for updates next semester.
