Anybody know any good docu's on Dark Matter or String Theory? I'm not really looking for dissertations, just something that goes a little above the level of Discovery/History channel's attempt at explanations.

In the Library's video archives, NOVA has a video (perhaps even a series) on string theory. It is at least 2 hours long, and very well put together, which is typical of NOVA. It is called, "Our Elegant Universe"

GLHF!

I think it is just called "Elegant Universe" and the sequel of sorts is called "Fabric of the Cosmos". Both are narrated by and based on books by Brain Greene who is a pretty awesome. Really smart but makes things easy to understand. Uses a lot of simpons references in his book.

Or read "The Elegant Universe." Not too technical of a read and I am guessing you will get a much better understanding than a 2 hour movie.

might try that this summer. Reading has become less of a fun activity since coming to college.

The elegant universe was a great program, only thing on PBS that actually stopped me from flipping the channel and gained my full attention for more than 5 minutes recently.

For anyone who doesn't want to go looking for it, here is the link to the program divided into three 1 hour segments. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html

*EDIT* Sorry, just actually looked at the site (I've had it bookmarked for a long time) and they've changed it into smaller 3-8 minute segments, but its still all there.

well, three 1 hour segments cut into 8 parts. so a 3 hour documentary cut into 24 parts. still is pretty awesome, and it cuts them up really nice, so you can show your housemates the cool shit and not have to worry about where it was.

the book is really quite awesome. I first read it in high school and just read it again last year. Puts everything into very basic terms of physics.
