Got a sub and an amp sitting around, need someone to give me a hand as I don't know the ins and outs of car audio. Yes, I can hook up RCA's and a power wire to an amp, I just want some suggestions and a watchful eye.

Oh, and if anyone builds boxes, I will gladly compensate them for their time and effort. The sub is a 12" Alpine Type-R.

Hey, no worries, I understand. Just need a box and a some suggestions, really. Running an Infinity 611a for my amp, and it puts out a little too much power wired in 2 ohm, and didn't know how to adjust accordingly.

i've got a dual 12" sub box that I could let go.. it's ported and I believe is bridged (wiring) but that's not hard to change. I'm in KC atm though and don't think I'll be back down till August..

$30 sound fair? I'll get pics if you'd like.

That's what I was thinking. I just didn't know what control the output of the amp, for lack of a better term. If I turn the gain up, say, 3/4 of the way, that would keep the output of the amp under 500 watts RMS and I'd be fine?

To blitzvergnugen, I only have the one sub, but thanks for the offer.

i would always run my amps at 2/3 to 3/4 gain just tuned by ear mainly that should be fine with what you have

Alright, thanks. Got a box on order, so I'll try tackling it by myself.

Yeah, make sure you start with everything hooked up, the stereo on, the amp on, and your gain on the amp down to zero. Start turning up the gain to the level you want it, that way you don't run the risk of blowing your subs.

Those type R's can handle just about anything u throw at them. I am sorry to say but infinity is kind of a low end of the mainstream. The amp is what makes a sound system great i found out after going through 4 of them. (first was an infinity). But the type are is an excellent sub, I picked up a alpine 1200W amp made for the type R series and u can max out gain bass boost etc. but the sound is just bad then cause my box isn't right for that or my car. I have 2 old Dual 12" box's that my type R used to be. I have a sealed one, and a bandpass/ported box if your interested. I would go with the sealed if i where you i have sealed on my type R and love it. Let me know if your interested. I am in KC as well and will not be back till next semester though.

ok yea so.... lots of things going on here. I'm MECP certified. have been. i've stopped installing though. ran outta time with the fulltime job and such. but anyways

to set an amp properly use a digital multimeter and measure AC voltage coming out of the amp. This will tell you if your under 500 watts. I wouldn't send more than 500 to a type R anyways, especially if you want it to last.

that will get your numbers straight. Tuning by ear doesn't work cause the human ear can't hear distortion till nearly 10% THD! ouch poor speakers.
