Facebook tells me right now that I have 50 friends online. Upon examining that list it is more like 5, probably more like 3. Maybe I am just being picky, but just because I have someone's account on my list for stalking purposes doesn't mean they are my friend.

and you added them because.......
seriously, use facebook as a way to track your friends, or as a phonebook for acquaintances. but once you choose one, dont bitch about facebook not being both.

Jeff.. You decided to add them to your "friends" list. So, you are ultimately responsible for keep only your friends on that list. If you put your "stalkees" on that list, then that's your problem. Not facebook.
PS You're a post count whore

it would be pretty cool if fb let you group friends into different sub categories with or without them seeing it.
that would be pretty cool if you could name your own caterogies. also, i don't think the friends shoud be able to see the categories. idk if you want someone seeing that you put them in your "stalker" or "a$$holes" categories.

Then you should do what I did: limit the amount of friends you have on Facebook. I can't foresee liking more than 30 people, so that's my limit. If I get up to 31, I delete my least favorite person. In your case, if you have only 5 "real friends" on Facebook, then your limit should be 10...or 20...or whatever. But as others have said, you really shouldn't complain since you were the one who added them to your friends list for stalking purposes.

Well, it is possible to group your friends into different lists, say "actual friends" and "People I don't really care about" and most importantly "girls I don't know but still want to see photos of". But my point was it still calls all of those people friends.

I see two options:
1) You can complain/gripe/suggest to the "facebook team" about how you want to be able to label your friends on facebook instead of having to label them in your head
or
2) You can keep stalking your ex girlfriend from high school, continue your own personal labeling process, and delete the "friends" that you don't consider friends.

done. I have actually suggested several things that have been implemented or partially implemented. Before the whole newsfeed came around I sent an e-mail asking if they could include RSS of what friends do, and they are like, this feature is not planned at this time, and then 2 or 3 months leader we had news feed, and not sure when RSS was implemented but it was. I also e-mailed a suggestion saying that tagged by me and tagged by others pictures shouldn't be separate and that got changed. They still haven't implemented myspace style CSS editing though.

Personally, I'm glad that they haven't done this. I think that if they were to use this sort of profile editing, the pages would become incredibly slow to load (i think they've already slowed down a little since this newest version), plus it'd be annoying as hell when you load a profile and you spend the first five minutes on the page trying to find where the annoying screamo rock songs are coming from and how you can stop it.
I think that by keeping that sort of strict profile management under the developer's control, they are setting themselves on a higher level than myspace and xanga and the like.

People that have that problem with myspace have never looked at the options (or are viewing profiles while not logged in).
