Ok,

I have a promise ultra 100, and windows xp.

it is on irq 11, sharing with my graphics card... not my choice, but my motherboard won't allow a change, at least not so far as i can tell.

whenever i try to transfer files off of the drive connected to it, my system hangs hard. it really sucks.

i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for fixing this problem?

i'm pretty sure it's not the card, because i've been having the same issues with a iwill sidepro 66 card.

Try a different OS? At least that's what I do... I like Windows98. But i'm sure there's some kind of hack/tweak that can be done.

Yeah I know I can try to do that. But that would be a last ditch effort...

Put the controller card in a different PCI slot. It's probably sharing resources with some other device, and doesn't like it. Let us know if it works

Try going into your bios...first disable pnp os, you don't need this anymore (assuming you don't have any pnp ISA cards)... Next disable any onboard features (sound, modem, parallel port...etc) you don't need, as this will free up some irq's. Save and reboot.

It's worth a try.

Later,

You might want to disregard my previous suggestion to disable pnp bios...as this might screw things over completely as i just remembered my Promise RAID card displays "BIOS NOT FOUND" when i disable pnp bios....but its worth a try.

I did put the card in a different PCI slot yesterday, but I could have sworn that I tested it after that.

Anyway, I just tested the damn thing, and whaddya know it's working. I didn't change anything I swear!!!

Computers are so retarded sometimes.... ::sigh::
