is anyone else on campus experienceing SHITTY ASS FUCKING bandwidth? local intranet seems fine, but for some reason internet downloads are crawling like 2 kbps... which to my recolection is not very fast at all. perhaps this is a problem of my own....just curious/
Check what domains you're pulling down from, that could be part of the problem, too. Some are notorious for being slow due to old equipment, etc. But, I just pulled down about 30 MB off of af.mil and it took me about two minutes, averaging about 200 kB/sec. Do a tracert to check latency. (If you're using cmd, you'll usually need to adjust the window size to get a good view of all the columns.) Also see what times you're using it. You will have shitty performance anywhere on campus if you're doing it between 3 and 6 p.m., but if you're working between 3 and 6 a.m., then it usually won't be slow. At least it hasn't been for me the past few days. Best of luck to you. There isn't much worse than watching your connection crawl while you stand helplessly by.

My house had a problem with really slow connections at the beginning of the year. We had a helpdesk guy came in and all he did was dust the ports with a can o' air on the hub and you did the same in your room. It solved the problem.

I'm piggy-backed off of TJ and I can downoad off some servers at 700MB/s+. I also run XP. 2000 runs slower than xp. So I dunno...I couldn't be happier with my net connection!!

Dayum!
700 megabytes per second! It must be nice to fill up a CD in the blink of an eye! You must be running some expensive-ass hardware, considering the raw speed of gigabit ethernet hardware runs at under 125MB/s (think 1000Mb/s / 8). And to think, all this time I thought the hardware connecting personal computers in TJ to the rest of campus was hardware limited to 10Mb/s. I'm just curious how you managed to slip that much high-grade ethernet cable into the TJ main switches and suck up that much bandwidth without CIS noticing.
Waitaminute... you don't suppose...
So, you're the sombitch that's been using all the bandwidth on campus! Ah ha! Gentlemen, I've found the cause of the campus's ass-crappy bandwidth problem!
Well, time to update my wishlist. I know what I want for Christmas.

*sigh* Please go back and read the very last line of my post.
It was a joke. A JOKE! See the little clown icon on the message??
Yes, I REALIZE what he meant, and proceded to poke a little harmless fun at it. Apparently, that's not allowed here in the Seek forums.
But, I digress. Maybe there's been so many flames over the past few weeks people automatically go into a self-defense/attack-anyone-that-posts stance. Maybe I shouldn't post this message 'cause I'm going 'ape-shit' over your reply. Maybe we should just drop the issue and get on with our fucking lives. In any case, sorry for wasting your time with a joke that obviously didn't quite fit your mood.
Now, back to the topic at hand: How 'bout them... uh, slow ping times?

Easy sparky.. I wouldnt even want to see what you would do if someone actually said something insulting to you. Wait, yeah i do.
934k a sec... hmm... that's a lot. i;m starting to get better downloads now... i think the main problem was downloading from direct connect servers... they would start at 20 and just drop to like 3 kbps and then teh connection would be closed on the other end. meanwhile, i'm uploading grosse pointe blank at 185 kpbs so some schmucko.
my next ques. does anyone know the name of some good video dubbing software? i just tried to dub a 220 MB simpsons mpeg episode into an 80 MB avi file but the fucker crashed just before it completed. that, and i'm not quite sure how to use it. oh well
