I just purchased a laptop and plan to use it on campus. I'll eventually want to transfer information from the laptop harddrive to my PC harddrive, is there a simple way to do this other than to swap info back and forth via zip cards or burning CD's? The laptop has a combo ethernet/modem card but my PC is simply a modem machine. Both machines run Win-98. Any advice please.

Thanks.

Seriously, the amount of time/effort/headaches you'll save just by throwing a $15 network card in the pc is well worth the effort.

Somewhat computer illiterate so ignore my ignorance. If I place the "network" card into my PC, then all I have to do is hook an ethernet cable between the two machines and it'll treat the harddrive in my laptop as an additional harddrive in my computer? What is the transfer rate of info via an ethernet cable?

Is there any special configuration that I'll need to perform when setting up a network card? I've installed memory and a burner but those were essentially plug-and-play.

Thanks for the help

Wow, this is gonna be a fun one..... (the whole computer illiterate part) First of all, the transfer speeds are higher than you're probably gonna use. Secondly, yes it does take a bit of a setup, and a special cable for that configuration (cross-over cable). So that would take the work of either a nice little store, or someone with a small patch cable that can place an end of for you. Thats about all the help i can give ya...

you can hook them together with a USB cable also. In the long run I think you will be better off with a ethernet card and cross over cable. Another posibility is to hook them together with a USB cable. USB is slower, but very easy, and less expensive.
