ok i've been having troubles with the network all semester. first there was the deletion of hte opt in base, and i re opted in, but it seems that ever since then seek42 hasn't been searching my shares. this is odd. my computer can still be accessed by most computers at the address gx1327, but seek42 doesn't search any of my files. i can tell because when you search for files that only i would have (big trouble in little china) the only copy that comes up is from someone who got it from me sometime before i was ignored.

i thought my firewall (NPF2002) was to blame, so i plum uninstalled it. after uninstallation, the next time i went to seek i had the "opt in" screen again, so i re opted in. i don't know what why or how but i ain't on seek! and i have such o so valuable crap, too

if anyone knows why the network has been finnnicky this semester... uh... fix it... please?

part of your firewall may still be installed/active. Trying to list your shares with smbclient as of 3:05 pm wednesday times out, and your not responding to pings at all.

That's not the problem... The real problem is seek42 is shit. The damn thing asks me to opt-in again many times today, and 3 times in the last 5 minutes. My IP has yet to change, so that's not the problem. It must be the seek42 database is hosed. It also hasn't indexed this box yet.

no, its not seek42. ive asked people to try and connect to me via gx1327 and they can't connect to me. try it yourself. seek42 has nothing to do with it.


i reinstalled Norton Personal Firewall 2002, and set up the rules so that it accepts connections to any address within the range of 131.151.1.1 to 131.151.255.255. this allows me to connect to other computers within that IP address while the firewall is still enabled, but no one can connect to me.

also, when connecting to my workgroup "sigmanu" the only comptuer who shows up in the workgroup is my own. regardless of the fact that everyone in the house is on the same workgroup.
