what OS are you running, what program are you using to open it, you have to be specific about what you are doing. what movie, whats the extension....

okay,
i was specifically trying to watch rush hour 2 and i couldn't get the picture to come up. All that came up was the screen, a flying window, and there was some sound.
i did however get the movie American Pie 2 to play for me. So, is there something wrong with the person's file i was sharing with.
sorry if i am not that specific...

you dont have the correct codec installed (probably)
make sure you have the divx4.02 installed:
http://www.divx.com/download/downloadlist.php?typeid=1
you can get it there

if you are running xp, wmp doesnt allow certain divx movies to be played so like mentioned above you need to get a dif player.

or else it must be a different codec that you dont have
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index.html#codecs
has a bunch of them......maybe try angelpotion

Well after I installed xp, I could only get some of my movies to work in wmp. Tried installing all kinds of codecs but it didnt help. Was talking to someone on a forum and he was having the same problem...... Maybe we are both stupid....oh well...... All I know is I installed ZoomPlayer and it plays all my movies just fine. Also I like it better for use with my Matrox card too.

WMP in XP does currently have problems playing some mpeg movies. To solve this problem for the moment simply type "mplayer2" in the run menu. This will bring up the old style WMP. This one has no problems playing these movies and is a perfect solution to the problem until microsoft or someone else solves the mpeg problem.
