A friend of mine at SLU told me this weekend that they've cut off TCP ports to the Internet for all popular fileshares AND Half-Life's 27015 on campus there. I have been unable to connect to filesharing networks with the Morpheus client for some time now, and I'm worried that UMR has enacted a similar policy. I've heard nothing about a change in policy, can anyone enlighten me?
CIS has blocked the morpheus port. This really pisses me off cause its even more useful than napster ever was. I think everyone should tell CIS how you feel. It won't get us anywhere if you don't, so grow some balls and tell them that this is bullshit and we will NOT put up with it.
Thats actually a falsity. You see, the CIS is run and operated by the school, the school is run and operated by a bunch of old fuckers who are afraid of falling enrollment, loss of money and profit, and a whole bunch of other things. Now if they see that the students are even more unhappy about the current situation in Rolla than they already are, they will tell CIS what to do, and CIS will do it. I've seen it happen before and it will happen again. Just requires people to get off their ass and do something instead of copping that crappy ass piece of shit attitude you have. Its people like you who piss me off. You complain all the time, but you never do anything about it. If you aren't willing to do something, then stop your fucking complaining.
quamosity, do you even fucking play counterstrike or even normal half-life? if you did, you would know that ports 27015 and 27016 are default for servers, not 27019. and 27020 is the new port for the hltv proxy.

Jesus folks, lay off Quamosity. I happen to know he DOES play HalfLife, he's quite a fan. Ease up off him, cripes. He was simply mirroring the feeling of futility that every student has felt at some point when contacting ANY part of the university concerning a policy change on any level, CSc heartily included. The view of the university as being simply a group of old grey-haired men only concerned with the bottom line and profit margins is quite dominant, but I think, a quite deluded fairy tale. While the university may be in debt, and may be losing money, you aren't going to generate any leverage with the powers that be by threatening to drop out. It's your choice. If you don't want to be here, if the restrictions on your internet use are so horrific that you can't even stand to set foot on campus, I'm sure there are other universities that can accommodate your needs. This particular one has many factors to consider when dolling out the small amount of bandwidth available to everyone. We all might think the school is made of money and should have net access the likes of which god himself has never known, but the school wouldn't be a school, or at least not a very good one, if they spent half the budget on an OC4billion line or whatever would make you folks happy. I think if you really break down what you're complaining about, you'll realize its all bunk anyway. "I can't connect to Morpheus." Darn. Guess you'll have to find a new and creative way to pirate music and software. "I can't run my HalfLife server on the net." You're not allowed to run servers anyway, read your net contract. Shouldn'tve signed it if you didn't like it. I'm not saying I don't pirate music, software, play HalfLife, etc, but I'm saying it's all a privilege, not a right. Be creative; think of new and innovative ways to cheat the system instead of complaining because the system is doing its job. Don't any of you remember dialup?? Be glad you can download EVER at 500k and hold on to that as your warm fuzzy for the day.
Later
