Just wondering what to do about a couple of asses (whose names I have) that crashed a CS server recently (for no other reason other than humongous nerd egos) and came into gloat about it after it was restarted... Should they be reported to CIS?

I'm pretty sure in your computing agreement with the university you agreed not to run any servers on your computer. I doubt CIS would be very sympathetic.

Yeah, I figured that, but it was late and I was tired and pissed off when I wrote it. What the heck am I supposed to do about it then? Let them keep crashing it?

Do you how they crash it? Consider downloading csguard - it's an anti-hack program.

I have HLGuard installed. I'm not entirely sure how they crashed it.. Everyone playing last night suddenly starting losing send-packets to it. The server never actually crashed, I guess, but everyone connected got timed out eventually. I'm pretty new to the whole server-thing. I just did it for my friends to see if I could.

That sounds like a flood ping. I'm not sure how to stop it though. Blocking IP addresses only gets to far...

If someone is flood pinging you then that is something you can report to CIS. It would help if you had a log of it though. You shouldn't mention that it affected your CS server, just that it was slowing your computer down while you were trying to get some work done for a class and it was really frustrating, etc, etc.
