On the contrary, I applaud your efforts. Honestly, I usually do stick with speed limits, especially on small sreets, suh as almost every street in Rolla. On the highway, I try very hard not to go more than 5mph over. That probably will not get me a ticket, but the radar detector helps avoid those few anal cops that would nail me anyway.

(b). Radar Detectors. Useless. Junk. Ka-ka. Nothing but electronic gadgetry designed to give you a false sense of security. I've been pulled over more times with a radar detector, then without. Finally ended up giving it away to my brother, because I didn't want it anymore. For starters, let me introduce you to instant on or pulse radar, and to laser. Each of which by the time you detect it... Officer Friendly is already filling out your speeding ticket. Radar Detectors make you feel like you're the baddest mother fucker out there. (which we all know is false because hey... I'm out there too). They make you feel like you can drive balls to the wall because you've got a clean signal. Clean signal? Well, tell me just how fucking clean your shorts are when you get those flashing lights in your rear view mirror. Pulse radar, laser, even helicopters that track your speed by those white lines marked on the highway all render your snazzy new radar detector virtually useless. And when you do get pulled over, and you do have those bright LEDs and beeping tones when the officer walks up to your window... YOU try and convince him you were speeding by accident.
Yeah, as it's been said, the radar detector responds when you're getting hit by the police radar. Most cops leave theirs off until they're actually pointed at cars, and by then it's too late. That means the cop knows how fast you're going, and knowing that he knows doesn't help you a damn bit.
There are some radar detector manufacturers that will pay your tickets if you're going no more than 10 over. I think those are more of the radar jamming type things, which are illegal in some states...but that would be nice.

The way i have found not to get pulled over is anytime you pass a highway patrol building such as the one here in rolla or the 2 in jeff city just give the building the finger. For some reason it works i drive 85-90 all the way back to KC and have not go pulled over all 3 years i've been down here and it even works over the summer. Once i passed a cop sitting in the median pointed my dircetion and i was going about 110 and he didn't even try to chase me. Maybe he knew i could out run him.
Seeing as how I dont have a radar detector, I dont all out speed non-stop. I'll usually try to stay near groups of cars (i.e. not speeding out in the open), and i'll slow down near turns I cant see around. Also I try to slow down before the tops of hills, and I slow down near cop-popular spots (burbon, six flags). What really helps is when you find someone else trying to get somewhere in a hurry, so the both of you take turns speeding in the lead while the other one follows (hey, you cant both get pulled over).

I don't have a radar detector...but I watch for cops like crazy.
I usually have trouble finding people who want to go as fast as me....but yeah...I usually slow down to within 10 over when I can't see that far in front of me.
Saves a ton of time. I've made from my house in Liberty, MO (just north of KC) to TJ in just under 3 hours before.
I also usually don't speed too bad at night when I can't tell who's a cop and who isn't until they're next to me though....unless I'm on a straightaway and there's nobody at all around.
btw...anybody know if there's a speed governor on altimas? Got mine up to 110 the other day. I'm thinking if it didn't kick in then, there isn't one.
