So, for the longest time, I've been a fan of the Point, and while I was never a huge fan of the Howard Stern show, it has become a part of every morning for me since it's far to much trouble to retune my radio back and forth every day. Anyway, I don't know how many of you have heard about his current situation, but basically the bleeper guy for him missed some obscene words and they went out across the airways. In addition, he's made some dispariging remarks about Pres. Bush. Shortly after these incidents (of which one may have nothing to do with this) the FCC got on him and now he's been dropped by ClearChannel Communications from some major markets. Ever since this has happened, he's been discussing (whining if you ask me) about how he's only being persecuted b/c he's Stern and b/c he spoke out against Bush.

Well now he's calling for a "revolt" to vote Bush out of office and vote Kerry in. Which even this morning he's been putting his angel, do no wrong spin on Kerry and his devil, evil to the core spin on Bush. Believe me, I'm not a big fan of Bush, or Kerry for that matter, but misrepresenting the facts is misrepresenting the facts. He continually said that Kerry always gave him straight answers and I found this to be the most insane of his rantings because as anyone has seen in the news, Kerry has had up to 3 viewpoints on some important issues over the past year or so.

Basically the choice we have is this, either a vote for Bush, who is at times to damn determined for his own good and refuses to change his take on an issue despite overwhelming voice against, or Kerry who hasn't had an original thought in his head and simply takes the anti-Bush side of an argument or simply changes his mind with the changing of the public's opinion.

Oh, sorry about that minor diatribe. So what does everyone think about this Stern situation??

If you ask me Stern had it coming. It is his own fault for using profanity on the radio, granted he thought he was being bleeped out, but I have found it is pretty easy to not use profanity in conversation. As for the Bush comments, that is totally an asanine argument, I highly doubt that the Bush Administration even cares what Howard Stern says.

What happens when the FCC gets people for stuff like that is the fine goes to the stations license holders. A lot of times, the fine is fucking huge....like 10 grand. In this case....it's a nationally broadcasted show. I can imagine the fine being in the millions. They vary due to conditions...and the level of commercialism of the station. It also depends on what exactly was said. Whether it was obscene or indecent.

A fine can be reduced if actions are taken immediatly to lower the chances of it happening again. Some stations have lost their "safe harbor" over this. That's that lovely time after 10 pm and before 6 pm where kmnr gets to play material that is indecent...but not obscene (they can cuss....but not talk about anal sex). Most other stations also have safe harbor....i'm just not sure if the times are always the same. Chances are, clear channel, being the massive tools they are, decided it would be best and cheapest if they were to just drop him like that.

It could always be possible that they're planning on bringing him back on after an indisclosed amount of time.

Yeah you are the most educated person I have ever seen post here. HA! What the FCC is doing is enforcing decency upon the masses. You may not like it, but enough people in this country believe it is what should happen, so it did. No matter what anyone says this country was founded by a bunch of Christians and our rules reflect that.

Well, i both agree and disagree with what the FCC does. I don't want nudity and coarse language on network TV (although i cuss all the time and watch crap like that pretty often), but i don't like the idea that they don't allow the first amendment rights to be honored over the air.

The first ammendment does not cover obscenity. At that point, you may also begin to infringe on other people's rights as well.

yup, cussing is a fine line between freedom of speech and infringing on other people's rights. If it is public radio where anyone has the possibility of hearing it, and the same goes for watching public tv, you can't really restrict children as much since radio and televisions are everywhere. If you had people cussing every other word on the radio and breasts flying around everywhere on tv what can parents do? Restrict TV and radio completely? In modern society you can't since many television and radio programs are broadcast in public. Howard Stern is a tard and a whiner and he deserves it for breaking the FCC rules.

yeah, though i truly despise the FCC, i hate howard stern even more....

the guy is a fucking retard, but somehow he has all of these followers...

why??? i've asked people and they always tell me "dude he has naked chicks on the show"...... it's at that point that i want to stab them in the ears with a dull pencil.... IT'S ON THE RADIO!!

i prefer to listen to bob and tom in the morning..... those guys are fucking great and they don't have to have clownshoes and dirty whores on the show to make it work....

hell remember when darryl Kyle died and those fucks in AZ called his widow on the air and asked her if she would like a date to accompany her to the playoff games between the diamondbacks and the cards?? those guys got yanked the same fucking day.... and rightfully so

some people try to push the envelope to much on the radio, some people should have some respect for others

ok enough of my rant.... FUCK STERN
