Are there any other movie players out there that can play the same types of files (avi, mpeg, mpg, etc..) that WMP does? I want to make a switch. I am using Win XP by the way.

Thanks.

i find windows media player quite reliable. if you get the right codecs, it plays everything except .mov. there's a million & 1 different players around. if you want an all in one, try vcdcut. it plays all formats that i've ever seen, and there's no install, but it's not pretty.

the players I use are as follows: if I'm under windows, I use Winamp5 with the video support installed. It plays damn near everything. If i'm under linux, i use either Xine or mplayer.

I agree with wssy, Winamp 5 does play pretty much everything, an i have found it more reliable at times than media player.

try media player classic, it looks pretty much like wmp 6 but its open source and has tons of added stuff like subtitle support, pan-n-scan, etc

Thanks for all the input guys. I actually found a program called BSPlayer that I like so far, so I think I am going to use that right now.

Thanks again.

you do realize that the divx player uses wmp 6.4 at its core? it's still windows media player... just with a fancier box.

My choice depends on what else I'm doing. If I'm doing rather passive things that are easy on the processor and memory, like surfing the Internet or writing a program/paper, I use WMP simply because it takes up less desktop space.

On the other hand, if I want to "replace" ingame background music, as it were, I use Winamp to save on memory.

wmp uses less desktop space than winamp?

Yes, wmp can be a toolbar on the taskbar.
