I am thinking about building a new system and would like to know how you the seek42 public cool your systems. Please include any stories, wild ideas, falures what ever.
I use a standard aftermarket HSF for my CPU... Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu. Other than that, I have an exhaust fan on the back of my case, and an intake in the front. My CPU and motherboard both idle quite cool... My CPU is normally in the mid 30's (degrees Celcius), while my motherboard is normally in the low 30's.
I read one story online a couple years ago about a guy modding his case and filling the inside of it up with a non-conductive liquid, and then keeping that liquid cool with liquid nitrogen. Having your computer idle at -196 C is quite an accomplishment.

I use a Thermalright SP-94 with either a 92 mm Vantec Tornado (119 CFM, 56.4dB) or a 92mm Panaflow Hi (57 CFM, 35dB), depending on how I feel about the noise. My roommate will probably hate me for using this tornado, but it works incredibly well. I lapped the heatsink using up to 2000 grit sandpaper, and it transfers heat incredibly well. I also have 5 other fans, 2 intake in front, one intake on side, and 2 exhaust in back.
I said standard but i wouldn't consider sp97 + Vantec Tonado92mm (119cfm) system for the cpu standard ... also the MCX-159 northbridge cooler and the Delta92mm (110cfm) ram/southbridge cooler standard either. Considering i had to make special brackets for 2 of those and mod my case. Oh and a vornado room fan blowing through.
Sorry for the links but my digital camera is all packed up in the truck for returning tomorrow.
More of the same, thermalright 947, Vantec stealth 92 mm fan. Works a little better than my Silent Boost (after lapping). I would recommend:
Thermaltake SILENT BOOST
For 30 bucks online or at compusa, it is a much better deal than a thermalright, and it comes with a fan, and is very quite.

I use a Volcano 7+ to keep my CPU cooled. It's never been above 50 C, so I can't complain. I don't understand why people need their processors at -26 C, when the core cracking temp is 90 C.

Oh well.

I used a Volcano 7+ for a while, but eventually got tired of hearing my Jet Engine fly at 35,000 feet. That thing was so fucking loud. That was the main reason I switched to a silent fan that puts out as much, or better airflow. Plus my Zalman looks hella cooler too... It's about the size of a CD.

The cooled the better is the rule of thumb. Basically you can stress parts harder if you keep them from getting too hot. BTW if my box hit 50C i'd be rethinking my cooling solution.
On the computer i will be building this weekend (with help, i have no clue what i'm doing) i will have a LED intake fan at the front of the case, exhaust fan at the rear, and a $15 Artic Cool fan/heatsink combo. I think it will work pretty good, although i may have skimped on the heatsink/fan a little bit. I might try overclocking one of these days too....
