How do you get movie files that are .avi to play on windows? I have tried everything on my machine (windows media player) and it won't work. Any help would be great. thanks.

It's probably divx, search google for xvid and install that.

.avi can be one of serveral video formats. It usually is divx or xvid. To be able to play the file, the correct codec must be installed. Just get these off of the network.

You can use gspot to see what codec it was encoded in, and then you just look for than codec. I have a current copy shared here

Go Here download the codec pack.

The Standard should be fine.

Full and Mega has Video players and other software that you will probably not need, but you do have the option of not installing them.

Best all in one codec pack I have found.
Never had a problem playing any media format.
Including Real or Quicktime files through Windows Media Player.

Personally, your better off only installing the codecs you need, and individually, rather than installing a Codec pack. This eleminates reduntant, unnessary, and out-dated codecs from being needlessly installed or installed over current codecs. Plus, you know what your system has and what it's able to do. I'm a bit obsessive about being able to encode with multiple codecs though, plus having the ability to process video files on my compy. Those are all considerations nessary when selecting a codec, I choose mine wisely and have very few problems.

the tsunami filterpack has a lot of rare codecs. if divx, xvid, and indeo can't decode it, chances are it was encoded with some weirdass codec that is included in tsunami

but what do you mean "nothing will run it"? what happens when you run the program? no video? an error occurs? the video "mysteriously" turns into gay porn? what
