Now that my computer seems to be working decent i need to get some software on it. The HDD is empty.
I'd like to go with Windows XP, preferably the professional edition because i have heard it is better by just about everyone.
Of course since i have this great resource called Seek42 i'd rather not pay for my software.
I'd like to know how to go about putting a copy of XP on my computer. I searched on Seek and 6 people sharing it, some with activations and some without. Can anyone give me a reccomendation about which one to d/l and burn into a CD? After that, how can i go about getting the product key?
Or, if someone already has a cracked copy of XP burnt onto a CD that i can borrow that would be even better.
would you rather have a free legal version?
because you are a student at umr, you can dl a free copy from msdn. if you don't know about that, ask one of your prof's for a name & pwd.

maybe i wasn't clear enough... it's actually msdnaa... there is a difference.
this may work for you, or you may have to find your specific department.

Thanks for the link. Looks pretty good....i think i would rather order the CD so i have a copy to keep (no burner on my current linux computer). I tried to log in using my UMR username but it wouldn't let me. So i emailed the address at the site to see if i could get on. Hopefully they will let me.
is there not a download option? only thing i can find is pay and have a disk shipped to me [it's a nice low price, but still...free would be much nicer]
You are not an eligible user because you are not one of SMIS students. The MSDNAA agreement allows SMIS students to use Microsoft software for free because the college pays the annual subscription fee.
However, you, as a student, can still get discounted software via educational discount program if you purchase them from the UMR bookstore. Normally, the educational discount is 60% or 70% of the listed price.
This sucks....it appears the school of mines and metalurgy dosen't have this (smeer now ). So....back to getting a illegial copy, or giving the bookstore a large sum of money.
or i have an unopened winxp pro full that i could sell you for half of whatever the bookstore is asking. i should just ebay the thing, but im too lazy. its unopened/unregistered/unfuckedaroundwith
