Lets suppose that there was going to be a Halo 2 Tournament as a Charity fundraiser... 1st place = $100, 2nd = $50, 3rd = $25... would anyone be interested? I'm just trying to get a feel for whether or not this would be a good idea.

Date - Soon after the release
Definitely on Big Screens
$10 entry fee (includes snacks, etc...)
Double Elimination
Singles and Teams (teams of 4)

It may be hard to have a good Halo 2 tournament soon after its release. If it is well planned/organized, I would probably enter.

It would probably be pretty fun since no one has any previous skill on the game. Where to go, what weapon combos work better now, ect...

What's the fundraiser for?

I agree with you there, but I don't think this is a good idea for a tournament with an entry fee. Give people enough time to learn what guns they like and a basic understanding of the maps before you want them to pay to play. But, it also depends on the details of the fundraiser I guess.

All proceeds from the Fundraiser would benefit the Children's Miracle Network (Sigma Chi's National Philanthropy). Proceeds = entry fees plus sponsor donations minus costs of holding the Tournament (renting Big Screens, buying snacks and drinks, etc...).



I am also a little weary of holding it so soon after its release, since I won't know exactly what kind of setup to use (what levels are available, how to choose them, etc...). And since Halo 2 doesn't come out until 11-9, that would give me plenty of time to organize it, and hopefully come up with some sponsors who would be willing to offer door prizes.



I've read about other Halo (1) Tournaments on here, and they seem to be dominated by a select few. By holding it earlier, the playing field could be a little more even.


On a final note, more participants = more cash prizes. Thanks for your input so far, and if there's anything else you can think of, let me know.

I'd go for some 32" tvs rather than actual big screens. If Halo 2 is anything like Halo 1 it'll be much harder to play on a huge screen. I like the idea though, and charity is always nice.

As long as they are not the older washed out big screens with poor brightness. Clarity and brightness beats size.

I've actually got a Philip's 42 inch that I'm renting right now... just got done with a few hours of Halo, and it was lovely

The only problem with these is that the only people that have a great view are the ones playing... too much above, below or to the side gives a crappy picture, so I'll keep in mind smaller TV's. Thanks for all the input.

no, it's just because it's a Plilips TV. I'm assuming it's a rear projection. see if you can rent a Sony or a Hitatchi. Our 54" Sony at home has about 160 degree viewing angle. Plus, the picture would be significantly crisper, sharper, and brighter.

I should have my free tv from freeflatscreens by then :O. The 27" sony flatscreen UXGA. Should be a damn sharp picture, esp with s-video input. Might get the hi-def pack thing, but I dono if it'd make a difference on a non-hi def tv (it's got RGB input but doesn't actually have hi def picture).

Just so everyone knows, this is most likely going to happen. Therules and regulations have not been written up yet, so information in this thread may or may not be correct. Thanks to all who replied!
