I'm using outlook 2003 to check my campus mail from off campus using the exchange server. Everytime it starts it asks me to imput my password for my AFS account. Is there anyway to have it save it? I clicked the Save passward box, but it never saves it. I had it working a couple of weeks ago, but I had to recreate teh account and now it doesn't.

Also how come I always here people on here saying that you need to use VPN to access your mail through outlook? Thanks all.

no, that password is used to authenticate into the umr-users domain. the reason why it doesn't prompt you on campus machines, is because you've already logged into the umr-users domain.

Fark, is there anyway to just go ahead and have it stored? I had it working before somehow.

And my password is Ummmm, hell no.

as I said before....no. unless you make some sort of agreement with IT so that you login to your afs account (umr-users domain) on your personal machine (not gonna happen)...then it won't prompt you. otherwise, like I've said before...no..can't do it.

yeah, I know it is frustrating. Back when I wanted to do the same thing, I looked high and low for a couple days looking for ways to simply authenticate to a domain via a batch file. found nothing. maybe one of these days MS will come up with a solution...but not very likely.

If you find something, be sure to post it.

how did you guys get outlook 2003 to work? i setup a ms exchange server:
outlook.umr.edu or minermail.umr.edu, either one works right?
and my username
and it repeteadly asks me for my password regardless of what i enter, even if it is the correct password to my afs umr account, and after the first time i enter the password, the username changes to MINERMAIL/my userid...

someone tell me the really easy fix to this..

I too had a hard time getting it setup after I moved off of campus internet. Helpdesk said that when you put in 'outlook.umr.edu' to get your correct mail server, you need to be VPN'd. once you've done this during the setup, you do not need to be VPN'd in anymore.

in short, VPN in first when you setup for exchange...then you are golden
