Are you talking about warbling noises from the speakers? System beeps?

Or are you talking about actual physical noises, like grinding, popping, or exploding?

AIM has this video advertising thing that they like to use on customers now. It plays quietly in the background usually, but you can still hear it. Basically the flashing ad at the top of the main AIM window (the buddy list) plays a video every once in a while, its a commercial. That may be the random noises you are hearing.
