Hey Guys,

Setup now consists of what's listed below, and the watercooling system is kicking azz on both video and cpu.

Time to overclock this sucker. Video will be an issue addressed soon enough, it's CPU time!

I read a few tutorials on unlocking the barton, but I am not confident to perform these operations. I'd appreciate some help from someone who's done it before (successfully).

Any help appreciated, please let me know. I'd rather not fry this chip, as it's brand new and expensive, but I would like to see its potential.

Thanks,
jkpq45

your watercooling a geforce 5200?
FANTASTIC :D

As far as unlocking your cpu, this site tells you how
http://www.technobabble.com.au/technobabble/html/april/amdbarton.htm

I haven't done it before though, and wouldn't really recomend it, it really wont help you that much.

I'll see what I can get out of this card, then maybe upgrade.

Converging on the performance specs of a 5700 or something, but I need to get my RAMDACs some heatspreaders, as they are unstable with anything over 400 mhz bus. Incrementing the core is going well, have tested and verified 315mhz core, movin' on up....

Thx,
jkpq45

Back to the cpu, the 3200+ is not the best overclocker, its already almost maxed out on speed.

Personally I have an athlon 1700+ that goes from 1.47ghz to 2.2ghz. Now thats an overclock 8)

You should've just gotten a Mobile 2600+. Those things are known to hit 2.6 GHz with ease.

yea, i picked up a 2500+ because its supposed to be able to OC to a 3200+ with no problem.

I was gonna pick up a new heatsink/fan just for piece of mind but I haven't yet :P

Thats pretty sweet, although my 1700+ was only 44$ a year ago.

Oh I'm not knocking your overclock at all. I'm very impressed with yours actually. I know someone that got a 1700+ to 2.55 GHz.

Mine could probaly go that high -- if I didn't care about it lasting longer than a month. :P

Nah, he's had it stable for several months now. It's the JIHUB stepping.

OK, since I don't want to destroy this chip and I bought it to overclock, anyone willing to work out a trade? It'd be the perfect upgrade for someone, I'd be open to offers as long as someone's got an unlocked from the factory chip (ie made before week 37 or so 2003). I'd prefer something with 512mb cache.

Let me know what you've got.

Tisk tisk, should've done your research before you bought that chip.

Actually thought this chip would have the highest potential, since it is the max my board will take. Since I'm watercooling, temperature wouldn't be a problem, so I went with the best.

Oh well.

Actually it has the lowest potential, since it is the max your board can take.
