Is there anyway somebody from say Kansas City can access my shared folder??

only way thats possible is to use the shared folder fo some program like ICQ, i dont THINK your normal share dfolder can be accessed across the internet by any normal means...

I think there is a program called WWW FileShare Pro that will allow you to do that.

VPN to campus providing they have a log on. Then \\<ip address> will get them to your computer. Then hope that the download doesn't cut out randomly whenthe VPN disconnects. If it's smaller than 100 MB (most poeples AFS quota) just drop it in your webspace and e-mail them a link.

as of late I've been getting alot of UMSL and UMKC people connecting to me.

I wish people would stop signing off or whatever when I'm trying to download a large file, get like 20 seconds left on a 700 MB video and bam.... source is no longer connected.

Sometimes they kick you intentionally. Especially when some douche thinks its a good idea to try downloading 8 files simultaneously.

Oh yeah, I'm trying to get the new Ghost In The Shell movie and this douche keeps kicking me after 2 minutes. I was 1 minute away from getting it the first time. It's late anyway, what does he care, I was just going to download it and go to bed.

maybe they're actually using their computer for something other than a file server and don't have the ram to function when people are raping their resources

I guess it could be possible with some of the lowly computers I've seen some people use on campus. I don't think I ever experience any loss of system resources though, only thing that get's gobbled up is bandwidth.

The guy is probably just playing some game, got pissy when he started getting lag.

I have a second hdd for games and a few apps so I barely lag even when that happens.
