Crap....we are #11 in least happy students? I thought we were #1 or #2 at one time. We lost our top spot!

Class Discussions Rare: In all of my small classes (>40) we have always had lots of class discussions. Above 40 they are pretty rare.

Campus is Tiny, Unsigltly, or Both: Tiny, yes. Is that a bad thing? Not really. Takes me like 10-15 minutes to walk from TJ to the multipurpose, and that is completley across campus. Actually not a bad thing at all.
Unsightly? Well, some of the buildings, like HSS and Comp Sci are pretty ugly IMO, but i didn't choose this school based on the looks of the buildings. And they are trying to make it better.

Dorms like Dungeons: The quad and the south tower, kinda. The north tower has old rooms, but are reasonably nice for the most part. Housing defenitly isn't UMR's strong point though. Which is why i'm moving off campus after next semester.

Least Happy Students: Yeah, seems like alot of the people here are pretty unhappy. Maybe those who keep their doors shut all the time, or just play video games 24/7 and never leave the rooms. I'm not ultra-happy here or anything, but i'm not unhappy. Could be better but it could be alot worse.

Those polls were probably answered by a bunch of freshmen who only had big lecture classes like Chem 1, and boring/stupid classes like Calc 1.
They lived in the dorm for a couple of months and its not as nice as their house, so they say its like a dungeon. I personally like the rooms, just the hallways are kinda dungeon-esqe.

I must say that I enjoy the Tiny Campus. My sister attends UT at Austin. It takes her about half an hour of walking through city streets to get to her classes. My furthest class is in Shrenk, which is 15 minutes away at a slow walk.

I havent met evry person on campus, but they all seem generally happy to be here. Otherwise they wouldnt keep coming back.

Best 357 Colleges Rankings.
The dorms are dungeon like, I would not say TJ is really bad the large buildings in the quad feel and smell like a dungeon.
Campus is small but I think that’s a good thing, the construction, does look bad.
Least happy students, well I don t think this is true, but I have been to many other universities and have not been to a place with so much unhappiness.
The Class discussions thing, that must be a really subjective question.

I like the smaller campus. I can get to just about anywhere from TJ in 15 minutes max. And as far as the rooms go, they're small, but I wouldn't say they're dungeons. After all, there arent that many public universities that have awesome dorms, you gotta pay private school tuition for those

With regard to the small campus, I agree. But with regard to how nice the dorms are, tell that to Mizzou. The dorms I've seen there were a lot nicer than ours overall, especially compared to the damn paper-thin walls in TJ South. Also, their food is WAY better than the shit we get from Chartwells. All of this from a college in THE SAME STATE SYSTEM, which is NOT a private school . . .

Class Discussions Rare? It completely depends on the class, professor, and students.

Campus is Tiny, Unsightly, or Both? Yes. Before the recent renovations the campus looked like shit. Now it's starting to look a lot better, but certain buildings (ME Annex) need to be rebuilt.

Dorms Like Dungeons? Absolutely. TJ North is only lacking a few whips and chains (which I'm sure some people have) to be a full fledged dungeon. The south tower and quad aren't much better than that. The problem is they're dark, dank and usually smelly. People who have not seen (and I mean more than simple tours of) dorms from other universities should not comment on this.

Least Happy Students? Pretty much. I think this largely has to do with the piss poor environment surrounding the university. The sad truth is the entire city of Rolla looks like no one gives a damn, which, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, does have a huge effect on moral after a short while. I think this will improve slightly once the renovations are completed, but in order to really improve this score they'd need to overhaul the entire city.

If you all remember, we took this review ourselves in our respective BE10 Classes

What happened to "is it food"? We were near the top last year. In fact, we were in the top in about 10 areas last year. This place hasn't improved that much in a year, has it?

I've only been here for a month and 1/2 but I don't think it's that bad. Granted, having only been here a month and 1/2 I'm not entirely qualified to make an accurate assesment...class discussions aren't really that different from the ones we had in high school and i went to a small private school so my "big" classes had 30 people. The campus, in my opinion, is a nice size. It doesn't take too long to get anywhere, but it's spaced out enough so it's not like buildings are being packed together like a slum or anything. It's not the most beautiful campus i've ever seen, but it's definately not the worst (if you think Rolla's bad, look at SUNY-Stony Brook). I really like my dorm (does that make me overly weird or something?) i lofted my bed which gave me a lot more space and my roommate has her bed on cinder blocks. I don't really feel "crammed" or anything in my room, it's nice. I really don't know about how "happy" the people here are in general, mostly because I really only know a handful of people in my building and a few kids in my classes. No one seems to be particularly unhappy though, in my opinion.
oh well, i'm just some dumb freshman putting in my two cents. The food does suck though, especially at TJ (no offence to those of you in TJ) Rayl is only slightly better. I don't particularly look forward to meals on campus, but that's my only major complain so far.

I dislike the food very badly. If you eat anything then you're okay, but I'm vegetarian and it's very hard to eat without spending independently. Salads don't cut it, canned vegetables don't cut it, but that's not exactly my issue.

If you don't like the food and have individual suggestions or complaints you need to fill out one of the comment cards, and not say, "Fuck Chartwells" on it. If you simply state the problem in a reasonable matter then your card is read.

Smells like biased to me, a lot of the same schools are on the same spots on different lists. I wouldn't take that made up garbage seriously.

I don't agree with the majority of the survey.

I don't have many class discussions, but like someone has already said, I'm in classes like chem 1 where there isn't room for much discussion and it's frankly just not needed.

As far as campus being small, that's what I like, I don't want to walk 20-30 minutes to get to class. I can make it from the Res. College parking lot to either Schrenk or the BE building in like 10 minutes which means i get to sleep in those extra 10-20 minutes.

The dorms like dungeons?! No dorm is designed to be non-dungeon like. There are no windows in any dorm halls, therefore they will all feel like dungeons. However, I can't really comment on this as I'm currently residing in "the resort".

Lastly, I don't agree with the unhappy students ranking. However, I can understand that ranking with some of the people who do just sit in their rooms on their computers. However, if those unhappy people would just find some people to hang out with, even if they were still on their computers, but in larger groups, I assure you that they would have more fun.
