It's not a bad service, I was also skeptical of it. Its spread by referrals given to beta testers and whatnot. Now so many invites have branched out it's hard to find someone to give them to.
did you e-mail or PM anyone.. because that's the procedure
to give you an invite we need both full name and an e-mail address
or you can just send an e-mail to one of the people offering invites

It has a neat "forum thread style" of managing your messages. Organizes them into conversations as you and the person bounce replies back. Other client side apps do this as well. They also give you a lot of space. I use gmail to email attachments to myself and print it out on campus.
