Is it just me or do stuco meetings always turn out to be a huge ass waste of time? Tonight was the approval of funds for different student groups. We spent what had to be an hour debating whether people wanted to vote on VOTING for if it would be ok to vote on amending the rules to let the IFC hockey team get some money since they turned it in late.

I really didnt care one way or another, it was just the horrible waste of time that people kept arguing the same two things back and forth.

Most of the people here really didnt care one way or another, but it seems like 4 or 5 people find it fun to pull out piddly little rules and clarifications which serve no purpose but to correct grammar, or complain about things that everybody else already feels ok with?

I swear these people were seriously getting off on being a bitch.

Point of information: you're a bitch.

Oh I had mine with me. I think that's why I didnt kill anybody. Seriously though, that meeting lasted way longer than it should have. For anyone who stayed till the end, if it actually addressed everything it was supposed to, what time did you get out?

Be careful about leaving early. Last years, when the meetings were getting long and someone became concerned if we still had quoume, they posted door gards, did a quick roll and whom ever was still there gain like 1 project hr and those who left got hid with 1/2 an abesnce.

I have been on council for three years now Beast... and that was by far the most unorganized chaotic meeting I've been to. I'm extremely suprised we were able to keep quorum.

Just thank heavens its over... until next meeting when we fight over SAFB.

MAD, luckily I'm not a stuco member so I could leave whenever the heck I wanted too. I'm surprised a qourum was kept last night with all of the voting members leaving left and right.

As for having to post door guards to 'keep' people from leaving....if I really wanted to leave and I were a stuco member (hahahaha) I think I'd leave anyways. If your society is in such poor shape that you have to keep people from leaving, maybe that should tell you something about the group's effectiveness as a whole.

I actually left when the EFC started bitching at everyone. And that stupid kid kept abusing point of order.

Last night, UMR Student Congress shat all over Robert's Rules of Order.

I didnt even ask for personal privelige, I just walked out. I dont care if they give an absense, that meeting shouldn't take much more than an hour. Maybe some goddam organization would help.

Ok. Yes the meeting should have been run better and that would have saved some time. But to say that an EFC recomendations meeting should have only taken an hour is just ignorant. No returning council member would have expected that meeting to end anywhere near an hour. Even with perfect organization and moving forward as usual that meeting would have still taken a long time because important things needed to be addressed and taken care of.

On a side note. If Robert's rules are being violated and you don't have the gall or the desire to say anything, why are you even in Stuco? And how would the people you represent like to know that you just gave up because things were going astray and you didnt even try anything? Just a thought.

The meeting would have gone on easily enough if it weren't for the endless bitching about the IFC hockey team. They really didnt need to do half of the bullshit arguing that went on. An overwhelming majority said that it was ok to take a look at it when we got to the EFC portion of the meeting, but the same couple of douchebags kept holding things up. I can understand that the whole meeting will take more than one hour, but 3 hours is rediculous.

First of all, the people I represent obviously dont care becuase nobody wanted to be the Stuco rep. we went for a week with nobody volunteering. I finally decided to do it because I thought it might be fun, I was wrong.

For me to correct evry mistake of Parlimentary procedure I notice, would strech the meetings even longer. I dont want to be a pain in the ass to call a point of order every time someone misuses point of order.

Had i been told that Stuco meetings would last that long, I wouldn't have volunteered. I had other stuff to do.

Who presides over these meetings? Is s/he not strong enough to start slapping people down as out of order when they start wasting time? If so, you guys need a new presiding officer.

The president is our esteemed Julia Roseman, who if I'm not mistaken, won by default since nobody else cared enough to run. Once again shows that most people dont give two shits about stuco.

It takes a lot of work to be student council president. The reason no one ran against her is because no one wanted to put in as much time as Julia is willing to. I think she does a good job.
