I don't know if any has this same infatuation... watches... but I believe I am addicted. At first I thought it was something stupid that would only happen to me but I found out via the internet that there are a bunch of people more watch crazy than me! I didn't know if anyone here has the same interest.

It started off as me losing my watch. Then I found ebay... then I found automatic chronometers... then it was all down hill from there.

I have gone so insaine as to add a web page in my public directory just so I can have an outlet for this crap.
http://web.umr.edu/~bmpfg8/watch.html

Is this strange phase that will pass?
I hope so... I can't afford this hobby.

So I guess I am basically asking if any out there researches watches.
I know this sounds gay... and I am probably going to get flamed posting such a stupid message on the umr forums... but it is 1:00am... I just finished a website... about watches... I'm tired and pissed because of that... and I need to share this with everyone.

good night.

Remind me again how removing the AC's from the forums is supposed to stop pointless threads like this one?

Not supposed to remove pointless threads (as long as Rolla is Rolla, there will always be pointlessness), but to remove people from posting stupid-ass comments. Or, if they do, there's a way to track them down and flog them

Haha, to each his own, I suppose. I dropped probably half of the money from my internship (~$3000) on video games this summer. And all I have to show for it is about ~300 NES games, ~50 genesis games, and an arcade in my basement. Having a hobby is a good thing, and collecting shit seems to be a pretty common one. Its nice to have interests, that way you're not one-dimensional and boring.

Just do whatever you want. But if you're embarassed about this hobby, then I highly suggest not finding a community that revolves around it. Thats how I got sucked in. I started out small, then by chance found a online community about it, and next thing I know, i'm dropping $3000 on a hobby. As a result though, I've made alot of friends in relatively high up places in the video game industry (a field that I would like to get into after college).

So thats my story about collecting useless shit. Maybe you can get something out of it.

OMG. I'm not down with spending that much money on old video games. You could buy a project car and drop some money into the motor for that. But hey if that's what you like to do then I have no right to knock it, because you probably feel the same way about NES as I do about cars.

Yeah, the NES games didn't cost much. I'd say around $700 was spent on games, and the rest was spent on various arcade parts and whatnot. I built/rehabbed quite a few arcade machines this summer, so I equate that to your project car. I even built one machine from the ground up (cabinet, control panel), and threw in a computer and made it a MAME cabinet.

Thats why I said "to each his own". Personally, I'm not at all interested in cars, if it gets me from point A to point B thats good for me. I would be willing to spend more on a stereo for a car than the actual car itself.

Isn't spending all of your time/money on a hobby a definition of one dimensional? And I don't think anyone can spend that much time gaming and pretend to be well-rounded.

Hmm, so if I spend too much of my free time on FFXI, but so does my gf away in STL, so it's something I can "with" her while we're in different cities, how bad is it? Assuming that we don't spend much (if any) of our time on the game when we ARE in the same city, that is.

Yeah, that should've said "having hobbies," as in plural.

I'm not going to try and list reasons as to why I'm a well rounded person, because that's a cry for attention. Anybody that knows me, knows I strive to be well rounded. But hey, if thats your opinion, then I'm not going to try and change it.

Edit: Yeah you missed something, llama. I like the games for more than just the games, I also like the artwork and packaging. And the feeling isn't quite the same. Why don't people who spend $1000s on one stamp just buy a regular one for however much they cost nowadays?
