If i remember right, the "metal"packages are steam only things. The only stuff you can buy retail is the standard game and the collector’s edition.

Looks like you only get DOD from the steam packages

Correct DoD is a steam only thing. If you buy from the store you will only get CS:Source and HL2. There is one collectors edition that you can get in stores that will also throw in HL:Source and a t-shirt and i'm sure something else you don't care about.

Yeah, the silver package is very nice. All of the new stuff, plus everything prior to HL2 and CS:S (like Condition Zero and all other Steam related games) is included. So it's a great deal if you want to start a fresh account and if you haven't played any of the original stuff.

On another note, I tried out HL:Source for 10 minutes, and the only difference I noticed was the lighting...Maybe I haven't gotten far enough into it yet.

youch. $60 just for digital content? seems a bit pricy. compound that with the approximately 1,057,310 hours it would take me to download it from TJ, and it looks like i'm gonna have to pass.

If you're scared of not having a hard copy, you can backup all of your steam files now and burn them on a DVD or something. I've never done it though, so I can't tell you how well it works.

Its not so much I'm scared of not having a hard copy, but I'm scared on the consumer side of things. By delivering the content digitally, you cut alot of costs from the publisher and the shipping warehouse. But when you sell it at the same price as a B&M store, it kind of doesn't make sense.

It's because gamers have long since accepted the price of a game at $50. It's been that way, and no one cares, they just accept it. Sure, people complain, but that's all it is. Now that the B&Ms are out of it, you think they're gonna charge less just cuz?
