So i went and bought half life 2 today so i would have something to play over break and i must say that my first impression is dissapointment. The cd's arent in a jewel case, just paper sleeves. There isnt even a paper manual in the package, just a card with the controls on it. I hope the game makes up for it. It better, cuz $55 bucks for a box, and some cds in paper sleeves, and a card is a bit steep.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

I think Half Life 2 got away with murder because it is such a good game. You have to activate it online just to play it, and it seems a bit buggy. And they can charge whatever they want because they know people will buy it.

And yet its still worth it because the game is amazing from what I have seen.

A lot of games nowadays are packaged in paper sleeves. I, personally bought it on steam, so I don't even get my own CDs or manual. And really, I don't care.

i'm thought it was a gouge when they went from the big computer game boxes to the small boxes that have room for just the CDs and a small book.

All it is in the bigger box is just air anyway... and it's in a paper sleeve, so what?

The game was sorta dissappointing, it was to short in my opinion with very few "puzzles" that made the original good. Although the game is graphically kick ass. I definitely want to refresh my C++ skills to make a mod when the source comes out..

overall rating 4.2/5.0

The man enjoys the solid look and feel of a CD jewel case for his games. Give him a break.

my biggest complaint is that the game is still a "tunnel."

in far cry, you could do anything, go anywhere. i watched someone else play, and it was like "i didn't think of that!" of course, the physics sucked and there was no friction, and the storyline was exceptionally cheesy, but it was so open.

i guess what i'm looking for is more of an open game based on the HL2 engine.

I'm playing Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow right now, and even though it's linear, it makes my loins quiver because of the stealth!

I just bought Half-Life 2 today. I can't wait to get back from break and play it, even if it is still linear.

far cry open ended? all i did was walk around in a jungle and shoot guys with crappy guns.

in my opinion far cry is the worst first person shooter ever made (well, that i have ever played) everyone said it was supposed to be the greatest game ever..it sucked total ass!!

no way man, fry cry was great. The part where the rocks just flew out of your face if you had the knife(?) out was hillarious.

FARCRY 1.3 patch is out!

I think the CryEngine is a great engine even if the game was not as spectacular as it could have been. that being said it was a great fps, the shear open-ness of the enviroment and the fact you could basicly do the game any way you wanted was pretty fucking cool.

SC also rocks. I agree it has the ability to quiver the loins

A few questions about Steam(ing pile of shit)

Does Steam(ing pile of shit) run on startup?
If so, can you kill it and run it later when you want to run HL2?

Do you have to have Steam(ing pile of shit) running to start single player game?

It sounds like a cool game but it also sounds like Steam really blows. I won't pay $55 to have a company treat me like a criminal.

It's funny how you have all these hostile opinions against Steam when you even admit you've never used the program.
